Principal's Report

Dear Families,

BOOK PACK ORDERS - 2025

We are excited to kick off preparations for 2025! Tomorrow, details for ordering Book Packs through Kookaburra will be available on Compass. To make things easy, you’ll be able to place your order directly with Kookaburra by using the link provided and following a few simple instructions.

Book Packs will be delivered in individual packs directly to school ready for the start of Term 1, so long as they are ordered by the Sunday 8th December deadline. Please note, late orders will incur a delivery fee, as they’ll need to be sent to your home and may not arrive before term begins.

Our teachers have carefully curated these packs with the intention of keeping costs down and avoiding excess. Book Packs contain the essential resources your child requires for the year. Our commitment is to ensure all students have the resources they need to succeed. However, it is important to note that when the school is required to take on extra costs, funds will need to be taken from other program budgets to cover shortfalls.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us create a well-rounded and enriching learning experience for everyone.

*Please note, as per the Department’s guidelines, the 2025 Schools Savings Bonus cannot be used for Book Packs or for Voluntary Contributions. The $400 School Savings Bonus is limited to being put towards events, camps, trips, excursions and incursions, and school uniforms.

 

CURRICULUM DAY – NEXT WEDNESDAY 13th NOVEMBER

Just a reminder that next Wednesday is a Curriculum Day and is therefore student-free. As always, we thank you for making alternative care arrangements for your children on such days and for your ongoing support of the staff as they undertake important professional learning and duties.

 

SAFE SCHOOLS PILOT PROGRAM

Our school has been selected to take part in the Safe Schools pilot program in 2025, which will provide our staff with additional knowledge and skills necessary to ensure our school fosters a safe environment that is supportive and inclusive of all students, staff and families. Our school community is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment where every individual feels valued, supported, and respected, regardless of their background or identity.

This is about age-appropriate responses and establishing core inclusive practices, as we strive to create a safe and inclusive environment that is key to tackling bullying and harassment and reducing the prevalence of related long-term mental illness.

We are committed to ensuring that all students, staff and community members are treated with kindness, respect, and acceptance. Inclusivity is at the heart of our values, as we believe it allows everyone to thrive and do their best work. Throughout 2025, we will have access to a range of evidence-based and age-appropriate information, resources and professional learning to help prevent, and respond to bullying and discrimination.

Creating a positive and respectful environment is a shared responsibility. Parents, carers, and all community members contribute to this by treating each other with respect. We aim to teach our students about acceptance and inclusivity, preparing them to succeed in a diverse global society and ensuring our school remains a safe and supportive place for everyone.

Aligned with the Department of Education’s policies, we have a strict zero-tolerance policy for discrimination, harassment, and bullying. Our commitment to safety and inclusivity includes compliance with the Child Safe Standards and anti-discrimination policies. We encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses such behaviour to report it through the school, as we take all reports seriously to maintain a respectful learning and working environment.

Year 1/2 - Vase of flowers

We started this project from printing our flowers on paper and drawing patterns on a vase shape. We discovered different flower shapes by cutting out our printing paper and turning into flowers. Stems and leaves were attached. They are stunning! Fabulous effort 1/2s!

Physical Education News

On Friday 1st November, we welcomed our first Annual Peninsula District Swimming Carnival for 3-6's! It was a very successful day, with lots of participation and enjoyment. It was wonderful to see everyone give their absolute best effort in their races, as well as hearing great sportsmanship and cheering. A big thank you to Ms Belsar, Kelly and Hayley McDonald for coming and helping on the day, and to all families who came and supported our WPS swimmers. Well done to everyone who participated and gave it a red-hot crack! Bring on next year!

Notice Board

The Junior School Council have organised a PJ Day.

Students, teachers and even parents at drop off or pick up, are invited to wear their favourite PJ’s to school. All coins donated will go to Story Dogs. A big thank you to Liz and Sally, our Story Dogs team at Wallington Primary School.

Story Dogs enables a child and a dog with their volunteer handler a weekly one-on-one reading session held at the child’s reading level throughout the course of a school year. The literacy program is based on the Reading Education Assistance Dogs (R.E.A.D.) model.
