First Nations Studies

All students at Wallington participate in a first of its kind ‘First Nations Studies’ program. Through engaging in fun, challenging and rewarding tasks students build skills and knowledge about First Nations’ culture. They learn about the first Scientists and Engineers as the first inventors. There are many aspects to the program including development of STEM skills and learning about environmental science, flora, fauna, preservation and care.

Some key themes explored include: dance, music, art, weaving, toys and games, seasons, cool burnings, rain, animals, food/bush tucker, farming, living with mega fauna, huts, fish traps, bark canoes, tracking symbols and much more! We even have a ‘Bunyip Camp’ for the Preps, Year 1s and 2s, focusing on friendships and courage. Students also learn about Wadawurrung Country and have a go at learning the language.

Check out the video as the pictures speak a thousand words in explaining a program we here at Wallington are incredibly proud of. You will see happy students building, creating and learning in a positive interactive way in our unique and wonderful school environment.
